On November 8, Terje Aasland, Minister of Petroleum and Energy of Norway, visited Vianode, the first industrial-scale plant for sustainable battery materials, and commended on the efforts made by the company in the field of new energy batteries and its contribution to global green and low-carbon development and environmental protection. Vianode, owned by Elkem, Norsk Hydro and Altor Equity Partners, produces advanced battery materials with a greener footprint. The company will invest around NOK 2 billion to produce advanced environmental battery materials. This investment is an important step towards establishing a complete battery value chain in Norway for the European market. Empowered by Elkem’s rich experience in advanced material solutions and in-house R&D resources, Vianode has developed a series of synthetic graphite materials for battery manufacturing. This material can significantly increase the charging speed of the battery, extend its cruising range and service life, and bring higher safety and recyclability. It is expected that by 2024, Vianode will provide about 20,000 new energy vehicles annually with graphite anode materials to produce batteries.
