Lately, the national standard for bio-natural gas led by the Southwest Research & Design Institute of the Chemical Industry (SWRDICI) was officially implemented. This standard fills the gap in the field of global bio-natural gas standards, which will speed up the industrialization of bio-natural gas in China, and promote the comprehensive utilization of organic waste and the development of ecological circular agriculture.
Bio-natural gas is green, low-carbon, clean and renewable. It uses livestock and poultry manure, crop straw, urban organic household waste, and industrial organic waste as raw materials to generate biogas through anaerobic fermentation. After purification, its components and calorific value euqal to that of conventional gas. The development of bio-natural gas is not only conducive to filling the gap of China’s natural gas supply and demand and improving the level of energy security, but also facilitates resolving environmental pollution problems caused by manure and straw open burning, which realizes the industrialization and energisation of urban and rural organic waste, and is of great significance to urban and rural ecological environment protection.
China is the world’s largest producer and user of bio-natural gas. It is predicted that by 2025, the annual output of China’s bio-natural gas will exceed 10 billion cubic meters; by 2030, it will overtake 20 billion cubic meters.
As the leading unit for the formulation of the national standard for bio-natural gas, SWRDICI teamed up with 24 scientific research, teaching and enterprise units in drafting of the standard. By investigating domestic and foreign technical roadmaps, referring and comparing to other gas standards, and carrying out a large number of tests and verifications, they finally fufilled this standard formulation task.
