The Band

Minus One is a Rock band based in the beautiful island of Cyprus.

The band members are all professional musicians, with years of experience.
The band was created in 2009 to be a cover band with the name Gnostoi Agnostoi, but with the aim of making the covers different than the originals, and possibly better than the originals. The formula was successful and the band, renamed Minus One after the departure of one of the first two original singers Andreas Kapatais, gained good notoriety in Cyprus. While performing as Minus One in all places around Cyprus, they also created a band called Marianne’s Wish, which in 2014 attended the International Competition Hard Rock Cafe, arriving first in Cyprus and eighth worldwide, out of a total of more than 10,000 bands.

The band released two albums, “Add to wish list” and “Mind your head”.
In November 2014 Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation asked Minus One to participate to Eurovision. In the same period, George Solonos, one of the founders of Marianne’s Wish and Minus One, decided to leave the band to pursue his solo career, and his role as guitarist was taken by Harrys Pari.

Minus One attended Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm, reaching the final and ending 21st over 46 entrants. Their Song Alter Ego reached 1st position in I-Tunes charts in 4 countries and was listed in 18 more.

In February 2017, Minus One opened for Glenn Hughes (Trapeze, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) in Vienna, Bologna and Milan, receiving great reviews. Singer Francois Micheletto and bass player Antonis Loizides decided to leave Minus One in 2017, and Andreas Kapatais came back, while the role of bass player was taken by Maxim Theofanides.

Minus One members are: Andreas Kapatais, frontman; Chris J, drummer; Constantinos Amerikanos, guitarist; Max-O-Matic, bassist; Harrys Pari, guitarist

Christopher Ioannides (Chris J) | DRUMS

Chris J has been playing with Minus One since 2009, and was the drummer of Marianne’s Wish from 2011 to 2015. He is a co-author of all of Marianne’s Wish songs.

From 2008 to 2013, he played in Winter’s Verge, where he met Harrys, recording two albums in Germany with the production house Massacre records.

From 2003 to 2005 he played with Armageddon, participating in the drafting of an album. Armageddon has been for years another popular rock bands of Cyprus, getting an underground hit with Raiders of Steel. From 2003 to 2009 he was also the drummer of Avlea, yet another popular band popular in Cyprus (Cyprus is a very musical country: both George Michael and Cat Stevens originated from Cyprus)

Outside of the band, Chris J has a very strong passion for cooking, almost at professional level since the family is from the catering sector and Chris spends hours to cook and experiment with new recipes.

Constantinos Amerikanos | GUITARIST

Music has been a constant passion for Amerikanos (note: he is always called by his surname, and he prefers that … It has become his trademark). He started playing the piano at age 7, and then moved to play trumpet and also percussions. At 12 he was playing in his hometown band, taking part in fairs and parades. At 15, a scholarship took him to the Cyprus State Youth Orchestra, with which he has participated in numerous events even in European cities, playing mostly classical music.

Always at 15 he picked up his first electric guitar. After completing his studies he moved to Prague to study at the Charles University, one of the oldest (founded in 1348) and most prestigious European universities. Here he studied piano, composition, musical direction. In the seven years that followed, as well as studying, he performed in small concerts of classical music and was introduced into the rock world through the band Sulphur Generation.

In 2009 he joined Minus One. From 2013 to 2015 he played with Marianne’s Wish and joined on the US tour.

Andreas Kapatais | VOCALIST

Andreas Kapatais became interested into music from a very young age; he studied vocals and music in Nakas Conservatory, in Athens/Greece and continued his studies at AKMI college, as a sound engineer.

In 2002 he created his first professional band, Sulphur Generation, along with Constantinos Amerikanos (now in Minus One), and George Solonos (Marianne’s Wish, Minus One). The band became the most known rock bands in the island, and performed as the opening act for Whitesnake, Paradise lost and Anathema. The band released an album with the same name, in 2009.

He then moved to Greece and started to perform in Athens. He sang next to famous greek singers and also acted and performed in the musical “RENT“. In 2008 he moved back to Cyprus and co-created a band called “Gnostoi Agnostoi”. The group started to get very popular, but again Andreas had to move back to Greece, he was replaced with Francois Micheletto and the band renamed “Minus One”.

In 2009 he created his new band WhiteNoiz, which released three pop-rock singles. Andreas left Greece again in the summer of 2014 and moved back to his birthplace, Cyprus and formed Coindrop. The band performed pop-rock-dance English covers and original songs all over Cyprus. They released the song “True Love”. In 2017, following the departure of Francois Micheletto from Minus One, he came back to his first love. His first song with the band was The other side of mind.

Harrys Pari | GUITARIST

Harrys is the second youngest member of the band, which he joined in 2015, replacing George Solonos, who left the band for personal reasons.

Harrys began playing the guitar at age 11, and already at 16 he received a recognition for his skills as a guitarist at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in England (school of many musicians including the Beatles producer George Martin, who passed away recently).

At age 17 he joined the Heavy Metal band Winter’s Verge with whom he recorded four albums, three of them under the label Massacre Records. The band was called as an opening act for the group Stratovarius in 2010. In 2015 he played with the Winter’s Verge at the Melodic Alliance Festival in Tel Aviv, Israel.

In 2015 he was involved in a project with the Slovak-Cypriot Barebone band, which saw him touring Slovakia and participating in several musical events. Harrys has a degree in Civil Engineering with specialization in Structural Engineering.

Max-O-Matic | BASS

Maxim Theophanides, aka as max-O-Matic, is the junior member of the band. Born in 1995, in Pinsk, Belarus, he has joined Minus One in 2017 bringing a fresh funk and soul sound to the band.  Starting out as a self-taught guitar player at the age of 14, he quickly switched to electric bass because he felt “there were too many guitarists”. He later graduated from the Music Lyceum of Nicosia where he had taken lessons in piano and upright bass.

Collaborations soon followed with foreign and local artists on a variety of musical genres ranging from rock to funk and jazz.  Active in the local music scene from his teen years, his determination and discipline had paved the way for an early professional music career. Before joining Minus One he was a member of a cover-band (Coindrop), alongside Andreas Kapatais (vocals) and Kris Grecian (drums). He has also been a session musician with Hovig (Cyprus finalist of Eurovision 2017).
